Corruption of Mankind re-sbmt

i got my painting back after the school had it for some time. I have modified it since the initial submition because i thought it deserved it. I wrote an artist's statement for the regional art competition that i participated in so ill just paste it for the description. I got best of painting category

"In my art class we were to paint a surreal scene using different characteristics of the style.
This scene asks the question “whom is really controlling whom?”. The two figures are playing chess. They believe that they are in control (the chess table), but they themselves are being played (the chess floor). The two people playing chess represent illness and war. The figure on the left comes from the suits doctors wore during the bubonic plague. The figure to the right is a masked soldier. The horses are looking into the past and into the future, and the jellyfish represents hope and dreams.
I used acrylic paint on canvas. First I sketched out the pre-planned idea onto the bigger canvas. Then I put down the back colors such as the sky, floor, and walls. Then I added texture and details, and finally finished with the two chess players. "
